Good to be back!

Hey guys!

So, I was out of town for a week and (I'm hoping) you noticed that I was gone and felt utterly depressed that I wasn't around to add stuff to the Socialite Life Blog group.  ;)  But now, I'm back and ready to gossip, so keep an eye out for some more pictures, videos, links, comments and whatnot.

Happy Monday!

Britney Spears Making A Comeback?

For the first time in a long while, I'm convinced that the tide is turning for Ms. Britney.  Her performance at the MTV Video Music Awards was being hyped as the beginning of Britney's return to the top of the pop music game.

After a disappointing turn on stage, during which we were treated to what appeared to be a zombie version of our favorite pop tartlet, Britney showed herself not to be ready yet for a comeback.

Since then, she's had a trip to the psych ward on two separate occasions and as a result, lost control over her life, when her father was granted a conservatorship in order to try and help his daughter get her personal affairs in order.

Now, with her father keeping blood-sucking cretins at bay and buying her groceries for her so she doesn't have to deal with paparazzi attacks, she seems to be doing much better than she ever has.  Her guest-spot on the CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother was well-received and is opening other TV opportunities for the recovering pop star.

She's got more singles up her sleeve, from her new album Blackout and is reportedly slated to appear on the Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards.  We've got our fingers crossed for her and are hoping for the best!

We just hope it's not too much too soon.

Celebrity relationships that look doomed

For as many rumors as there are of secret celebrity hook-ups, there are just as many indicating that a break-up is on the horizon.  Here are a few famous couples that appear to be teetering on the edge, at least according to the tabloids.

Tony Parker and Eva Longoria

These two have always suffered from rumors of infidelity.  Most notably, before they were married, Eva was linked to her friend, (who coincidentally is rumored to have cheated on his now ex-wife at his bachelor party) Mario Lopez, along with a string of other high-profile celebs.

But, it was the allegation that Tony cheated on Eva with a French model, whom he met at THEIR WEDDING that really got tongues wagging.  As a result, the couple is suing X17 for publishing the interview with the model/alleged mistress in which she claimed to have engaged in adultery with Tony.

Most recently, Eva has been spotted without her tell-tale tattoo on her wrist--namely, the date of her wedding, sparking the rumor that she underwent laser tattoo-removal

It's unclear how much of this is true or not, or if maybe Eva's in on the joke.  She does enjoy a good prank now and again.

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow

These two keep their private lives very much to themselves, so it's hard to know what's going on.  There were some reports that the two of them were growing distant, with Gwyneth finding herself annoyed with her husband's penchant for partying.

However, Gwyneth denied that she and her hubby were experiencing marital woes, claiming that the only reason that the two of them are rarely seen out together is because they don't want to be photographed together by the paparazzi.

This could be the truth--since both appear to be very guarded when it comes to their personal life--however, it doesn't seem like a good practice to me, avoiding a loved one because you don't want to be seen together.  It might be a hard habit to break!

Madonna and Guy Ritchie

Word has it, these two have basically called it quits, with Madonna planning to make a move from London to New York City and reportedly, she's going to be taking the kids with her.  Luckily, though, it seems as if the split is amicable and that Guy will be able to see the kids whenever he wants--even if they are an ocean away.

Both have been pulled in separate directions, as a result of their careers, and one major blow to the relationship was Guy's conspicuous absence from Madonna's induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame recently.

According to the source, they don't plan on going public with the split for another year and a half.  I guess only time will tell!

Is Nicky Hilton Too Skinny?

When celebrities are photographed most days of their lives, it's hard not to notice when someone's sporting a little extra weight, and when others are looking like they could use a snack here and there.  Lately, it looks like Nicky Hilton is falling into the second category, but she claims that it's just the angles photographers are using to shoot her.

Already a thin girl to begin with, she's recently been spotted in pictures looking exceptionally thin--it looks most obvious in her legs, but Nicky has responded by saying, "I think the press has been printing a lot of pictures of me from unflattering angles."

We know that the paparazzi are definitely capable of positioning things a certain way to get tongues wagging, but we figure that we'll show you the pictures and let you be the judge.

Celebrity Trend Alert--Initial Jewelry

These days, we've noticed a lot of celebrities wearing a lot of jewelry with initials on it--be it their own or the initials of a loved one--in any case, it looks like it's a trend that's all over young Hollywood.

Paris Hilton is sporting a flashy ring, that has the letters "BM" prominently displayed on it, we're guessing because she's trying to show off her commitment to current boyfriend, Benji Madden, of Good Charlotte.  The two haven't even been dating for that long, but already Paris is dressing up in his love.

Lindsay Lohan has been seen wearing a ring that bears the initials "LL," and we're assuming it's a reference to her own name.  It would seem a bit odd, except that this is a woman who has the word "breathe" tattooed on her wrist, so maybe she might need little reminders like that to help her remember who she is.  Cause sometimes, she thinks she's Marilyn Monroe.

Finally, Nicole Richie is the last starlet we've seen engaging in this trend.  She was spotted recently, picking up some party supplies for her baby-daddy's birthday party.  And no, she wasn't wearing "JM" anywhere out of love for her man, Joel Madden.  Instead, Nicole has opted to step out in a necklace with the letter "H" engraved on it, out of deference to her baby girl, Harlow.  I have to say, I think that might be the cutest one of the bunch.

Catching celebrities off-guard

Celebrities always seem to have cameras pointed in their faces and I feel like there are three different times that this happens:

1)  The red-carpet/otherwise promotional event.

This is the time when celebrities usually shine.  This is the kind of photography that they knew they'd have to participate when they first got into the business in the first place--this is the attention that they crave and first made them want to be famous, usually.  You see lots of big smiles, friendly waves and favorite poses in these photos.  Or, if it's a photo-shoot, then they're doing their best come-hither look, using the bedroom eyes that made them famous.

2)  Paparazzi attacks.

These pictures are taken throughout a celebrity's entire day.  They could be shopping, eating lunch, taking out the trash, going to the gym, visiting a fertility clinic--you name it, if they're famous enough, we'll see them doing it.  A lot of the higher-level celebs are followed so often they're pretty much aware that everything they do in public will be scrutinized, so they try to lay low.  Others just accept it as part of the job and never leave the house without full make-up.  Some get pissed and try to shoo the photogs away.  Finally, the lowest level of celebs often tip off the paps, in the hopes that this kind of photography will get them more attention and raise their level of celebrity.

3)  Fan photos per request.

I feel that with the advent of blogging and everyday people armed with the ability to shoot and broadcast video using only their phone, celebs worry that everyone in the world is capable of being a low-level paparazzi.  But every now and then there's an actual fan who has the guts to approach their idol and the way the celebrity reacts to the request usually reveals just how patient they are and how they feel about their fans, as I think is evidenced by these pictures.

And these are my favorite pictures to see because I feel like they're the ink-blot test of a celebrity's personality and also reveals if they've been famous long enough to get jaded.  Look at Zac Efron's sweet smile--he's got a long way to go before entering Sean Penn territory.  Enjoy it while you can, fans!

All buzzed out...

Hey guys,

So, I haven't been doing as much on the Socialite Life Blog group and/or profilin' and stylin' as much as I should be lately because I'm a little buzzed out at the moment.  It's a lot of information to be processin' on the daily and my poor little brain is getting used up, what with my daily writings on Socialitelife.com

In any case, I'm glad to see there are a few of you here and there posting stuff on your own--I love your initiative!  Also, everyone seems to be enjoying our lively discussions about Britney, Lindsay and Paris, so that's cool.  In case you haven't joined yet, you can check it out here:

http://www.buzznet.com/groups/socialitelife/

Also, let's see...what else is going on?  I'm developing a mild caffeine addiction--two cups a day and I know it's an addiction because I'm starting to get headaches when I don't get my fix.  Sigh.

In any case, I want to encourage you to post stuff to the group and thank you for your Buzznet friendship!

Till later gators,
Lisa T.

The things we do for love...or lack of it.

Bai Ling was recently arrested for shoplifting at the Los Angeles International Airport, and her excuse that she gave was that she was emotionally distraught over her break-up from her boyfriend just before Valentine's Day.

Was she doing it to get sympathy?  Or, is she really so hurt over the end of her relationship that she was driven to break the law?  It's hard to say, since I feel like I've done some pretty wacky things in the name of love and/or heartbreak.

What about you guys?  What's the most ridiculous or embarrassing thing you've ever done over a guy or a girl?

I'm so ready for Whitney's comeback

Guys, before there was Britney, before there was Amy Winehouse, there was Whitney Houston.  This is a woman who had the pipes of an angel--couldn't dance to save her life--and whose fall from grace sparked many a comedy routine and spoof on Saturday late night sketch television.  She married Bobby Brown and the two of them raised all kinds of a ruckus both on television and behind closed doors and now, they have split and Whitney's gained some much-needed weight, claims to be clean and is poised for a comeback.

I can't tell you how long I've been hoping for her to get her shit back together, so we could enjoy some more of her fantastic music.  Seriously, I've been a fan for years and although I've made just as much fun of the sweaty, "Crack is Whack," wig-askew Whitney, I will readily admit that I know every word to the entire soundtrack of "The Bodyguard"--B-sides included and love each and every remix of "It's Not Right, But It's OK."

Here's a picture of Whitney at Clive Davis' pre-Grammy party and although it's clear that she's been through some shit, she looks better than she ever has.  I heart you, girl, and can't wait for that album!

My latest shopping discovery

Now, I realize that I might be a bit behind the times here, but I recently stumbled across the site www.etsy.com and it looks pretty cool, for any of you crafty folks.  Its tagline is, "Your place to buy & sell all things handmade," and the stuff on there looks really cute.  I'll have to explore it more, both from the buying and selling angle.

Meanwhile, I forwarded the link to my mom, who can't seem to stop making little knitted caps for my sister to see if she'd be interested in starting her own little baby hat business.

Crossword fever

I'm addicted to crosswords at the moment--not hard ones, but the USA Today one online is so addictive.  You should try it.  Or not...if you have no self-control like me.

Here's a hint--always pick regular skill level if you want to cheat.  I always do.

And there went my last nail...

I was doing so well, not biting my nails for the last few weeks or so.  Today, I went nuts and now THEY'RE ALL GONE BUT ONE.  It's my pointer finger on my right hand and I don't know how it managed to survive, unscathed.

Sigh.

My Marathon Career Will R.I.P.

So, I decided to do my first marathon--the Los Angeles marathon--about three years ago.  I was unemployed, had broken up with my ex-boyfriend and needed something do to besides watch network television all day long while working on my resume and spec script for "Curb Your Enthusiasm."

Now, I've done two marathons and really thought, up until recently, that I might go for a third time for the L.A. marathon in March until I recently decided that I was done with marathons.  They had served their purpose.  Since I started training for my first, I now had a new apartment, new job, new boyfriend and even a new car.  However, I had already signed up for the Surf City Marathon in Huntington Beach--let me clarify, I was going to do the half-marathon, and then be done with any sort of crazy, long-distance running.  My last hurrah!

So, last week on Thursday, right as I was about to fall asleep I remembered, "Shit.  I'm supposed to run a half-marathon on Sunday."  Without much training, and still suffering from a nagging cough from my winter cold, I decided that I would finish with this half-marathon and end on a high note.

Saturday night, I got all my caffeine, running equipment ready to go and charged my iPod nano.  Sunday morning, I woke up to the sound of pouring rain and my boyfriend saying, "Hmm, it's SO WARM under these covers."  Rather than get bummed out and/or popping my boyfriend upside the head, I ate a cupcake for breakfast, drank a Rockstar latte for breakfast and threw on a sweatshirt on top of my running gear.  The two of us headed out the door to Huntington Beach.

IT RAINED THE ENTIRE 13.1 MILES.  Oddly enough, it wasn't that bad.  When I first started my training, I used to be so claustrophobic that I wanted to punch the head of everyone in my way.  But now, I've learned to just kind of go with the flow--like I'm a little fish in one of those giant schools, being whipped along by the wind and rain.

Few things are more satisfying than crossing that finish line and knowing that I'll probably never do it again.  I even have my surfboard medal in my purse, in case someone asks me how I spent my weekend.  Also, it will help explain why I'm walking around like I just got off a horse.

My endless love...

Dear Bree,

I love you so much, I would be willing to give you all the passwords to my email addresses because, quite honestly, once you've got one, you've got them all.  Also,  I'd even be willing to hand over my pin numbers for my ATM.  And I won't even let my mother have those, so...yeah, I'm pretty serious.

The two of us could watch re-runs of "Seinfeld" over and over and for you, I'd even pretend to hate every moment.  But when you're not looking, I'll probably be mouthing the words to some of my favorite lines of the show.

We're so clearly meant to be.
